Development Fund of Georgia held a presentation of its new investment strategy at the Borjomi Likani hotel, which was attended by representatives of industry media outlets and economic experts.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Chairman of the Fund's Supervisory Board, Merab Kakulia. The main directions of the Development Fund of Georgia's investment strategy were presented by the Fund's Executive Director, Besik Bugianishvili. Dimitri Khorava, the Director of the Fund's Investment Department, spoke about the Fund's financial instruments, while Giorgi Lomidze, the Director of the Fund's subsidiary company Startup Georgia, introduced the attendees to new opportunities for financial support for start-up businesses.
"I believe this was a very important event, as it gave the new management of the Fund the opportunity to provide detailed information about the Fund's new strategic vision and investment directions to a very important audience. During the presentation, we discussed the reform, specifically the legislative, structural, and institutional changes. We emphasized that all strategic assets that were part of the Fund have been returned to the state. Therefore, the Fund no longer manages state assets and is now an effective, proactive state investment institution. Our goal is to contribute to the structural changes in Georgia's economy through the implementation of commercially profitable projects. The main tasks of the Fund today are to promote the diversification of the economy, reduce its dependency on traditional sectors, attract local and foreign direct investments in priority sectors, and integrate Georgia into global economies. Additionally, our plans include creating competitive industrial business clusters in Georgia's regions. As for our priority investment sectors, the most important ones are eco-friendly and high-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, startups and innovative production, medical technologies, as well as export-oriented production and production focused on reducing Georgia's import dependency, which will collectively contribute to the country's economic development," said Besik Bugianishvili, the Executive Director of the Fund.
After the presentation, the Fund's management answered questions asked by the invited guests.
